| Who They Are: The Child Abuse Prevention Network is an organization focused on preventing child abuse in Dallas, TX and surrounding areas. Their Mission: The Child Abuse Prevention Network's mission is to break the cycle of child abuse by equipping parents for success. Their mission resonates through their four educational and counseling programs for families at risk for child abuse. The center works to empower its clients by teaching positive parenting methods and supporting parents in strengthening their families emotionally, economically, physically and socially. CAP is a kep provider of prevention services for at-risk families in Dallas county. How to get involved: Ways to get volunteer with the Child Abuse Prevention Network include: Joining their Families First Program Families First volunteers work one Saturday per month with the children of divorcing parents. Volunteers are trained in the children’s curriculum and help the children explore feelings about their changing lives. Training, interviews, and criminal background checks are required. Volunteers must commit to five Saturdays, annually, and attend an eight-hour training session. Joining their Parent Aide Program Volunteer Parent Aide Mentors conduct weekly home visits to a family at-risk for child abuse and neglect. Volunteers provide support and guidance in the areas of parenting, discipline, goal-setting, and problem-solving. Training, interviews, and criminal background checks are required. We ask that Parent Aide volunteers commit to four hours a week. Becoming and Educator with their Shaken Baby Syndrome Education Program Volunteer Shaken Baby Syndrome Educators are trained to speak to middle school and high school students about the dangers of shaking babies. Other topics include SIDS and Postpartum Depression. Training, interviews, and criminal background checks are required. SBS Educators volunteer four hours weekly. Adopting a family in their Adopt-a-Family Program Every Christmas, CAP Center donors adopt families who otherwise may not be able to provide their children with Christmas Presents. Wish lists are provided to donors from the families. Adopt-a-Family makes a great family or group project for people of all ages! Attending or Participating in their Special Events The CAP Center host various special events throughout the year such as the Celebrity Waiter Gala, CAP Center Classic Golf Tournament, and the Voices for Children Breakfast.
